Snorkel Masks for Christmas

(12/24/17) Since coming to the Bahamas, I have learned to love snorkeling.  I was not an eager participant.  However, once I learned how to breathe and get over the cold water, I love looking at the underwater life.  The brilliant colors of the fish and coral keep me coming back for more.  Now I like to come back to the boat and identify the fish we see.

We bought an underwater camera back when we got married and have made sure we always have one that works.  Our most recent is a Lumix which cost about $130.  It is lightweight and almost indestructible and takes a pretty good picture.   I love searching for beautiful fish and sea life and getting them to “pose” for me.  In actuality, I point and click while hoping I get something worthwhile.

We purchased 6 new full face snorkel masks for Christmas with the kids this year.  With these masks there is supposed to be no learning curve getting used to breathing through your mouth because with these you can  breathe through your nose.  The masks are designed in a new way that reduces fogging and allows for an 180 degree view.  A dry snorkel is built into the mask which means that if the snorkel is submerged, no water can get in.  This is great for beginners who fear getting a nose or mouth full of water.  We started trying on the masks over lunch at the Hope Town Harbour Lodge.

The lodge overlooks a great beach with many reefs making the perfect spot for snorkeling.

I love these pictures.  Drop by tomorrow for what we saw underwater and our review of the full face snorkel masks.

Hoping your Christmas Eve was merry and bright.

  1. Those do look fun! I’ve seen them advertised and wondered how they really work.
It all looks fun – thanks for the share.
Happy New Year to the entire MJ Crew.

    1. We still need some practice with the new masks. Downside is that the inside of the mask gets very warm. We need to practice in the pool. We have had a great time. Happy New Year to Angry Man BBQ and Crew!

  2. Remember how much I love to snorkel? My first experience was with Mike Kostas. We were on a scuba diving trip in the bahamas. ( I didn’t scuba, I snorkeled and watched everyone else scuba). We went from place to place and never actually docked anywhere until the last day of the trip where we docked in Bimini. Someone pointe out a coral reef off the beach and Mike and I snorkeled for what seemed like hours. We saw brilliantly colored fish and lots of little skates and rays. I could have snorkeled all day. Great memory— hope to do it again one day

  3. Happy New Year! I did enjoy snorkeling with ya’ll once I got over the initial fear. How cold is the water now?

    1. The water has not been too cold. I have a rash guard shirt that helps keep me comfortable. I don’t know the exact water temperature but I don’t go in if its very cool.
