Christmas in Hope Town

(12/25/17)The four purple candles on the Advent wreath represent Hope, Love, Joy & Peace.  The white candle in the center is the Christ candle.  I think it is fitting that we are in Hope Town for Christmas day.

We attended the Christmas Eve candle light service at the St. James Methodist Church in Hope Town.  We took the dinghy over to the government dock and walked up the hill to this lovely little church.  It was packed even with the extra chairs lining the inside and outside isles.  Pastor Vernon suggested that those sitting by the windows open them because it was going to get hot.  Those of us not in chairs went to listen to the service outside by the windows.  The hour-long service with a simple message and the Christmas story from the bible with classic Christmas carols was a perfect way to celebrate the birth of Christ.

It was especially nice when the offering plates were passed through the windows and all of us outside nearly doubled the offering. Just before the last song,  all the lights were turned off and candles were lighted with the singing of Silent Night.

This Christmas not at home was celebrated quite simply with a few small gifts, a favorite breakfast and a walk around Hope Town before a few family favorites for Christmas dinner.  We even played games.  The family knows I love to play games, but they do not enjoy them so much. I appreciate their gift of playing with me.

Merry Christmas!

  1. And you are coming home to FREEEEZING temperatures?! You would have to bind and gag me to get me to leave Hope Town. 😫

    1. Hope Town is beautiful and the weather was great. We have a cold front now–winds up to 30 knots and its 57 with a wind chill of 56. The weather announcements are different here. It’s funny they announce the weather as “its 25 degrees above freezing.” I had to think about that the first time I heard it. Yes, we are coming home. We will fly home and return later to the boat. I am not prepared for the cold weather but at least I can pack lightly since I have no need to bring warm weather clothes home. Hope we can catch up when I am there.
