Final Prep for the Ball

(2/20/18) Just a few days to go before the ball.  The fans for the booth came in and it was time to assemble.  I hadn’t thought out how to attach the fans to the plastic table-cloth.  Pins or staples could easily rip the plastic and tape might not stay.   I made a frame of poster board to hang over the metal onto which I could easily staple tape or glue the paper fans.

I started with my design on the floor and then transferred to the poster board frame.  The poster board can be seen in the picture below on the right.  I cut off the excess when I finished positioning all the fans.

The fans were weighing down the poster board causing it to drape.  Using the black-eyed peas I had on board, I fashioned some weights to hold the poster board down on the back side.  Boating in the Bahamas requires creativity.

The tables were all ready to go except for the centerpiece.  Susan had purchased clear water beads to go vases. I had never seen these before.  Apparently water beads are great for decorating, watering plants and even for activities with children.

When placed in water these polymer crystals absorb water and grow to about the size of a marble.  They are also known as Orbeez, water pearls, gel beads or water crystals.

Water beads come in many colors and have many uses.  Floating candles as well as submersible candles make for an interesting arrangement.

Nothing else to do until the day of the ball. It’s all coming together nicely.
