Easter Junkanoo

(4/1/18) Easter is one of my favorite holidays.  Even though we weren’t home to be with family, we had a special day.  The members of the Royal Marsh Harbour Yacht Club put together a pot luck meal.  Ham, pizza, lobster mac-n-cheese, cornbread, potato salad, sweet potatoes and a delicious carrot cake made for a great meal.

Great conversation with the small group of remaining RMHYC members led to a discussion about the Junkanoo at ABR after dinner.  A Junkanoo is a street parade with music, colorful masks and costumes and dancing.  It is thought that Junkanoo was started by the enslaved people who were brought over by the Loyalists.  When given time off at Christmas they celebrated by walking or dancing from house to house singing and playing instruments.  The largest Junkanoo happens in Nassau, New Providence.   Miami and Key West have their versions of Junkanoo in June and and October.

Can’t Have an Easter Junkanoo without the Easter Bunny!

Hoping everyone had a memorable Easter Sunday!
