New Crew Aboard

Categories :

(June 28, 2018) We had a few hours to kill before picking up our crew for the weekend so we went to check out the marina at Fernandina Beach.  It is disappointing that the marina is still not open for transient boaters because Fernandina Old Town is such a nice place to visit with great restaurants and boutiques.  If you are interested about the details of their struggle to restore and rebuild please read more at the Fernandina Harbor Marina.

We had a great lunch at Cafe Karibo on Third Street.  The outdoor seating is heavily shaded and comfortable even though the temperature was in the nineties.   Steve enjoyed the Brie’zy Day sandwich of Virginia ham, brie cheese, cranberry relish, jack cheese and honey mustard sauce with a side of salad.  The soup of the day with shrimp, andouille sausage and spices was perfect for me.

Once we picked up our rental car in Brunswick, we walked around Golden Isles Morningstar Marina to check out our slip and see if anyone was there that we knew while waiting for our crew to arrive.  The skies opened up and dropped a good bit of rain as they arrived after several hours of driving in torrential rains.  We weren’t going to let that upset our plans for fun times.

We started training Leslie and Carolyn right away with vocabulary lesson.  They now know the definitions of the following boating terms: aft, cockpit, foredeck, starboard, port, galley, salon, head, locker, companionway and stateroom.  We think they will be just fine!

  1. Steve’s Sandwich sounds delicious. Your soup sounds OK too – I am not a big fan of andouille sausage though. Why the extra crew members?

    1. We love having people aboard while we move MJ. Carolyn and Leslie were up for a new adventure and wanted to learn about the boating experience. They were great sports and easy going about the change of plans we sometimes have to make. They also taught me how to play Mexican Train–a fun game of dominoes you would love.

  2. Definitely a life-long memory. Admiral Joy and Captain Steve were the perfect hosts. Lots of laughs, beautiful sites, incredible wildlife, and great food!

    1. You and Leslie are great crew! Especially loved the games you shared to pass the time!
