Cloudland Canyon

On a recent trip to Cloudland Canyon on the Western Edge of Lookout Mountain in Georgia we had the opportunity to explore sandstone cliffs, caves, waterfalls, and creeks.  The last time we visited this park was in 1989.  My brain told me that I could easily hike the two trails down to Cherokee and Hemlock Falls to see the cool water cascading over the cliff.  After all, I was carrying an 18 month old on our last hike.  How hard could it be now?

Before we got started we had to take a moment for a photo-op with Busy Izzy.

We have lost all dignity

She tolerates us because we feed her.

I could have rested under this tree for a while but we still had some exploring to do.  As we began the hike back up my body told my brain that it is not in its twenties any more.  Nearing the top of the trail a young man asked me if the hike down was worth it.  I tartly replied with a big smile “don’t I look like it was worth it?”  Smart mouth boy told me I looked tired.  I may have been just a wee bit tired but yes it was well worth it.

A return to Cloudland Canyon for the fall leaves could be in our future…
