Out on a Limb…

Categories :

Traveling on Meandering Joy has allowed us to see much  beautiful scenery along the water ways and  delightful marine life.  It is magical to see the dolphin swim alongside our boat or an osprey nest filled with little chicks.  Meeting people from all over the world who share a love of the water is another benefit of exploring different waterways.

One doesn’t have to travel very far to meet interesting people and observe beautiful scenery.  An open mind and willingness to try new things allows us to experience new friendships in our own backyard.  We are spending more time at home than in recent years giving me some time to get more involved in our community.

I recently joined the Monroe-Walton Center for the Arts (MWCA).  I am not an artist but am in awe of those who paint or draw.  I like to play with photography and have occasionally captured some nice images.  A chance sighting of an invitation to join a writers group at MWCA beckoned me to attend at least one meeting.  I am an aspiring writer meaning I have ideas  but struggle getting them down on paper and having them make any sense.  I  can easily put down my  writing to cook or clean or yes, play tennis.

I did attend my first meeting with the writers group.  I met published writers who shared their writing their inspirations and challenges with me and the others in attendance.  It was interesting to hear of their varied backgrounds.  I never imagined meeting anyone who had spent time traveling by boat like Steve and I.  Surprisingly, in our small group another woman had also spent some time living in the boating world.

Frank Scully, an American journalist once said “Why not go out on a limb? Isn’t that where the fruit is?”  I am glad I went to that first meeting and then the second for I have discovered a basket of new friends.  Hoping you go out on that limb in your life whatever it may be!
