Graceland Part 3

Categories :

The tour bus took us away from the Graceland Mansion across Elvis Presley Boulevard and through those famous music gates. The wrought iron gates with musical notes and an Elvis image were designed by Abe Saucer. John Dillars of Memphis Doors built and installed these gates in 1957.

Caroline wanted to visit the Automobile Museum first so off we went.

Cars were not the only type of moving vehicle. Doesn’t everyone in Memphis need a John Deere? And certainly a boat will come in handy for exploring the Mississippi River.

In the Entertainer Career Museum there are clips of Elvis films, and interviews. There are also videos of concerts and sound tracks from different albums. I thoroughly enjoyed the Gospel Section of this exhibit as the song How Great Thou Art coursed through the exhibit. I am not sure anyone can sing that song as powerfully moving as Elvis.

Caroline enjoyed Icons: The Influence of Elvis Presley. This is the newest exhibit in Elvis Presley’s Memphis Entertainment Complex featuring over 30 musicians and entertainers all having been influenced by the work of Elvis Presley. On display are costumes, instruments and many artifacts from celebrities such as Elton John, Dolly Parton and Billy Joel.

After reading about our adventures at Graceland you might be tempted to be just a little but more like Elvis. Instead of buying yourself that signature while jumpsuit featured below by Party City…we encourage you to treat yourself to some Canoe or Brut cologne available at a store near you!

Caroline and I very much recommend a visit to Graceland–you won’t be disappointed!
