Jacksonville Landing to Lamb’s Yacht Center

We left Jacksonville Landing this morning to head to our winter home base Lamb’s Yacht Center Lamb’s is a full service yacht yard with both covered and uncovered slips. We had to cross under four bridges in less than 4 miles to get to Lamb’s, two train bridges and two vehicle bridges. A train was coming through when we left, so we hung out in front of Jacksonville Landing for a little while until it passed. The bridge is very old but interesting in its design. We have gotten accustomed to the river channels and ICW being well marked, sometimes confusing, but mostly understandable. The channel from the St. John’s River to the Ortega River is not marked as well as we have become accustomed, so we had to work a little harder to get into the Ortega River. We discovered the more shallow parts of the river, changed course, and slowly made our way under the final two bridges. We were met at the pump out station by William Nicely, the dock master.
William walked with us around the docks to give us some choices of slips. The marina is a permanent home for many. Whale shaped wooden placards with the name of the boat carved into it; hang at the entrance to many of the slips indicating its home. Permanent residents have satellite dishes and lawn chairs set up on the dock. It is all very homey.
We are meeting with several different contractors to investigate having some upgrades made on Meandering Joy. We are meeting with a Furuno electronics representative, a detailer to buff and wax the boat, an upholsterer to make covers for the cushions on the fly bridge.
Making Lamb’s Yacht Center our home allows us to have this work completed at a location that gives us easy access to the St. John’s River and the ICW and the ocean. From this point we can easily go back to the ocean and visit the Bahamas if we choose. Mr. Adventure is already planning this trip–Miss Adventure–is a little more hesitant about crossing the deep blue sea.
