Casaurina Point & Bahama Palm Shores
(4/30/18) The little red rental car carried for miles through the pines of Great Abaco. There are very few signs of life. We saw signs for two businesses, Abaco Neem and Abaco Big Bird Poultry.
Abaco Neem was founded in 25 years ago by a native Bahamian who discovered the Neem plant’s ability to help lower high blood pressure and control diabetes. These two diseases are a common ailment to his family and to many Bahamians. All parts of the Neem tree have benefits and are used in cosmetics, medicine and agriculture. Abaco Neem makes over 23 products for the body and several items for use in preventative medicine. They also produce skin products for pets. The motto is “Abaco Neem To Help the Body Heal.” I will have to keep an eye out for these products and perhaps find some samples. They give tours of the farm for $25–sorry we missed that this year, but we have something to look forward to on our next visit.
Abaco Big Bird Poultry is a Bahamian owned company run by the Pinder family who have experience as taxi drivers and fishermen. The cage free birds that they raise are hormone free, organic Neem fed and have no additives or preservatives. Along with its poultry operations the company also grows avocados and Persian limes.
After riding for many miles, we finally found two roads that looked like they led to the Sea of Abaco. Casaurina Point and Bahama Palm Shores are two residential areas with waterfront homes.
This home is bordered by a very long hand laid stone wall. I was interested in the carved rock “gargoyle” creatures topping the columns.
Several of the homes were advertised available for rent. If privacy is preferred, these are great and the views are exceptional but they are far from civilization.
