Schooner Bay

(3/30/18) If you are looking for a luxury vacation home with plenty of amenities then Schooner Bay could be the place for you.  Our little red car stopped at the guard shack.  The guard gave us permission to enter but informed us that we were not allowed to drive our vehicle around, we had to walk as this is a golf cart community.  The tour guide, we were told, was enjoying the Good Friday holiday and couldn’t take us around on the golf cart.  We were tired of riding so that was not a problem for us.

Although everything was beautiful, it felt a little like a ghost town.  We saw fewer than 10 people in this Bahamian paradise.  The complex has a marina with access to the sea of Abaco.  They offer transient dockage as well as owned slips.  The water appeared to be plenty deep enough for our five foot draft.

The Blackfly Lodge and Sandpiper Inn offer hotel type lodging and dining.  We found both to be cozy, warm and comfortable.  Blackfly Lodge is set up to take guest bone fishing–we overheard the woman in charge setting up a trip.  It appears to us that while much of the resort is complete, there is much more planned.  Construction projects in the Bahamas can take a while, mon!

Sandpiper Inn

Most of the homes are situated on a little island.  These homes have places for a boat to tie up.  There are also a few transient slips for guests.

Inlet into the marina–could be tricky with current or wind

There are a few small buildings like the one above.  We assume that there will be more permanent structures in the future but found these to be charming in their simplicity.
