Crossing Rocks for Sea Glass

Categories :

(3/30/18) While on our road side adventure with the little red car, we (I) wanted to find Crossing Rocks.  I had been told that I could find a gold mine of sea glass.  Sea glass is physically and chemically weathered glass found on beaches along bodies of salt water.  The process creates natural frosted glass.  Beach glass is similar to sea glass but it comes from fresh water.  Beach glass has a less frosted look than sea glass.  It can take 30-40 years for sea glass to take on its texture, shape and frosted appearance.

Crossing Rocks is a small residential community with a school and health clinic.  It is also home of Mama D’s Seaside Bar and Grill.  We parked across the dirt road from Mama D’s to access the beach and search for the coveted Sea Glass.

The proprietors of this fine establishment known as Mama D’s arrived after we finished searching for sea glass.  They heartily invited us back at six pm for dinner and music.  I told Steve that I would go if and only if I could bring about 10 of my largest strongest friends.  It looked like Mama D’s could get rowdy after dark.

I couldn’t take a step without finding sea glass.  It is my assumption that the rocks & limestone help to smooth the glass as it is washed ashore.

The display below is typical along the roads of the more rural parts of Great Abaco
