Treasure Cay Market Place

Categories :

(4/7/18) Under colorful tents, several vendors from around the Abacos set up to sell their wares.  Home grown fresh produce such as avocados and tomatoes as well as home-made baked 7-up cake are available.  We purchased some freshly made conch salad–our last chance before heading back to the US.  I love to serve this as we do ceviche with tortilla chips.

Many craft artists also participate in the weekly event.  Several buyers and browsers looked through all the handmade jewelry booths.  A few jewelry makers used sea glass found in the Abacos as the centerpieces for their designs.  Others could be found looking at the driftwood creations decorated with orchids and air plants.  One vendor made placemats, cell phone covers and glasses covers out of the brightly colored Androsia batik fabric made in the Bahamian Island of Andros.

We purchased a wooden bowl made from indigenous Bahamian Madeira wood.  Artisan Stephan Knowles and his wife search for fallen limbs or dead trees in their free time.  He carries a chain saw on the expeditions and caves out what he thinks he can use for his carvings.

  1. That bowl is absolutely beautiful. You have to show us that the next time we’re over.
Love pieces that are so unique like that one.

    1. Oh my goodness, it was out last night when you visited…just means you will have to come over again soon.
