Let sleeping dogs lie…

Categories :

Our first night with a little puppy was not too bad.  She woke about every 2-4 hours.  I took the middle of the night walks outside and Steve took the early morning ones since he is the earliest riser.   Lucky for us puppies at 8-12 weeks old need 18-20 hours of sleep to rest her rapidly growing brain and body.  She is afraid of most everything and looks for MoJo or Pops (our kids nicknames for us) to run for cover if needed.

Our girl is very much afraid of going down our front porch steps.  Pardon the pollen covering our front porch.  We haven’t been home long enough to give everything a good wash.

She can sleep anywhere…in my lap

or on a shoe!

Steve has heard me say “let sleeping dogs lie” several times already as he wants to wake her up and play.  The expression can be credited to Geoffrey Chaucer in his Troilus and Criseyde and can be used in several situations.  Back in the times everyone having guard dogs, it could be unsafe to wake a dog with whom one was not familiar as it might attack.  It can mean to stop talking about something that most people have forgotten about anyway or to leave things as they are and avoid reviving an old argument or disagreement.

I prefer to let the dog sleep so that I can get some work done around the house.  When she is awake–we play!

    1. Thank you! Hoping our paths will cross this summer– we plan to be in St. Simons in late June or early July.
