Whale Cay Passage & Abaco Beach Resort

Categories :

(11/30/17)  We left the kind, gentle, calm waters of Green Turtle Cay to go out into the grumpy, feisty and rolling waters of the Whale Cay Passage in order to get to Marsh Harbor.  Because we have a 5 foot draft, going through the Whale, is the only way we can get to the mid Abacos. The passage is tricky and should be avoided if there is wind chop or swells and outgoing current.  We chose to go out at a slack current but there were some winds and chop to the water.  I found that the roughest water was just before we passed whale cay on our starboard side.  Although we were being rocked abeam, our stabilizers seemed to handle it for us.  We left Green Turtle at 2:00 and were through the whale by 3:00.

It began to rain shortly after we made it through the cay and passed Baker’s Bay with its missing markers.  Our friends Ray & Susan Cope on Copeing were waiting for us at Boat Harbor of Abaco Beach Resort.  Glenn, the dockmaster, talked us through the entrance and guided us to slip 603.  This was by far the easiest entry into a slip we have ever had. There is plenty of depth, no current and wide, wide, wide fairways.

Some of the members of the Royal Marsh Harbor Yacht Cub came down as we finished tying off.  They invited us to cocktail hour at the tent set up for this group.  It was nice to meet some of the members after a day on the water.

The Cay was too fussy for pictures today.  The only picture I have of the day is of the beach at the resort.
