Running Errands in Marsh Harbour

Categories :

(12/4/17) I began our day with a walk to the Eastern Shore.  We have to walk toward the ferry which is very busy in the early morning.  Many people work on different islands but live in Marsh Harbour and many people live on the out islands and work on Marsh Harbour.  The sidewalks are narrow and the shrubs often grow halfway over the walkway.  It is good to pay close attention.  Once we made it by the ferry we were in another world.  The eastern shore winds around the sea of Abaco and is dotted with homes perched on the small hill.  The road is not very well paved but wide.  I think we saw just one car come up this way and they were workers for the new construction.

Steve was ready for a second yoga lesson.  Some of our friends want pictures to prove I am not making up his attendance.  Probably not going to happen but I can attest that he is working hard at it.

The tires we bought at the hardware store did not work for our Dahon folding bikes.  At $75 for 4 tires, we had to make a return trip to get our money back.  The return process is a little different that it is at home.  We left the merchandise with one clerk.  She shouted over to another clerk that we were returning everything on the receipt.  We walked over to the other clerk who did something with the credit card and gave us another piece of paper.  “Go back over to the other clerk” she said and you can get your refund.  Again, a swipe with the credit card and another receipt and we were finished.

Steve had finished his gallon of milk so a trip to Maxwell’s the grocery store was next on the chore list.  By the way–all this travel is done by foot.  Maxwell’s is a great grocery store.  The prices are higher but I believe we could find just about anything we needed here.  A head of iceberg lettuce is $6.  I opted for a bag of cabbage  at 2.97 to make one of my favorite slaw recipes rather than the lettuce.  Cabbage has a longer shelf life too than lettuce.  A gallon of milk and bag of slaw fit nicely into our backpack.

On the way back there is an old parking lot has been converted into a play ground for kids.  When I say converted, what I really mean is that someone has painted rings around the lot for a type of running track and there is a basketball goal set up on the side.  I am not sure if it is still in use as there were weeds growing up through the pavement.

Back at the marina we chose to explore the resort.  Found the paddle boards and chess board.
