An impromptu concert brightens the day

Categories :

(2/9/18) After a good lunch at Cracker P’s we all headed back to our boats for the afternoon.  Steve and Trisa dropped us off.  We went to check our dinghy which we had left tied up to the port side of the boat to discover that the bow line onto Joy Scout had come loose.  Because only a stern line was holding the dinghy to MJ and the water was a little active, the motor  kept banging into MJ causing the cowling on the motor to get crushed.  It was not a pretty sight…in fact I felt like crying after all the work Steve had done.  Plus, I was the one who tied the bow line which didn’t hold.

We were both so frustrated about the new damage and tired of being dependent on others for rides that we decided to return Joy Scout to her home on the fly bridge and head back to Boat Harbor for the night.  It would feel good to be back in our slip safe and secure and try to figure out how to get the dinghy revived.

Only 15 minutes of cocktail remained under the RMHYC tent so we went up to chat with the other members.  Everyone left but about 6 of us.   David Wright had a mandolin and his friend had a guitar.  They had played at a fund-raiser on Man-o-War Cay earlier in the day and were scheduled to play at Snappa’s later in the evening.  They decided to warm up for us and took our requests.  We could have listened all night.  Their music lifted us out of the dinghy doldrums making us glad we returned early otherwise, we wouldn’t have been available for the impromptu concert.

Saturday morning Steve got up early and started cleaning out the cracked motor cowling.  After getting all debris cleared he discovered that the inline fuel filter had been installed backwards. (not by us)  He turned it around. Voila–problem solved.  A little duct tape and the damage to the motor housing was disguised.  We will repair when we get back to the states.

It’s funny how good music can make a day better.

  1. Someone was just trying to help you save fuel.
Glad you found the problem and it was an easy fix. Ant that duct tape really gives a look of authenticity…….well, in Hart County anyway!

    1. You know he will have that duct tape removed as soon as we get back to the states.
Someone couldn’t see the arrow pointing in the right direction…

    1. He found out I like old time gospel and started right up with a great song. I caught the guitarist practicing Georgia as a warm up. When I asked about that he insisted on playing it for us Georgians!
