Royal Marsh Harbour Yacht Club

The Royal Marsh Harbour Yacht Club (RMHYC) is also known as the premier yacht club in the Abacos since the 1980.  The history of the club can be found here in a brief explanation by Robert Wilson of Atlanta, GA and a former commodore of the club.  It is quite interesting but my retelling won’t do it justice.

We had heard of the club while we were in Marathon Key from some friends who told of the great benefits.  There are many theme parties, receptions, potluck dinners and even seminars beneficial to boaters.  Several activities which include: Bocce Ball, Water Aerobics, Pickle Ball, Walking Groups, Mahjong and Bridge.

Another big benefit is the discounts offered with membership from marinas both in the Bahamas and in the US both for dockage and for fuel.  There are also discounts for dining, recreation, merchandise, and publications.  At the mention of discount–we were hooked.  It would be easy to think that membership to a yacht club would be very expensive.  Not so–it is actually very reasonable the money is more than made up for in the discounts we receive.

Members are from all walks of life and from many different countries.  Some members have already arrived and some are on their way.  I have been told that many members have finished their boating experience but love it so much here that they rent a condo or home to continue enjoying the camaraderie.

There are several marinas here in Marsh Harbour and you can probably find members at any of these marinas or anchored out in the harbor.  A large number of boaters stay at Boat Harbor at the Abaco Beach Resort.  We are glad we are staying here this year as it is the central location for many of the group functions.

The Welcome Back Party was held on Friday, December 1 at the nearby Regattas club house and pool.  It was a typical “bring something to share” party with a Bahamian flair.  Some of the dishes featured conch–a local favorite.

It may take us a while to learn names but we made some new friends at the party.
