TItusville to St. Augustine

Categories :

(4/12/18) The bridge at Titusville is beautiful at night and in the early morning hours.

Once we passed the bridge above we went under the NASA  railway bridge.  NASA used the railroad to transport equipment which could not be moved over the highways system.  Apparently, the NASA railroad closed in 2015 after the end of the shuttle program in 2011.  It is possible that the railroad will return to use if and when the Space Launch System becomes operational.   This system is a part of  deep space exploration plans to include a mission to Mars.

There are a few small uninhabited islands on the Indian River just before we get to the Haulover Canal and enter Mosquito Lagoon.  We always look for Roseated Spoonbill a beautiful pink wading bird in the spoonbill and ibis family.  We didn’t see any when we traveled south back in November.  On this trip we saw several.

Another interesting sight here along the Indian River is this large golf ball sitting on the shore.  It is my educated guess (and the guesses of my friends who have also seen this golf ball) that it is is a type of radar system.  However, I haven’t been able to verify the identity of this large white orb.
