People Food vs. Dog Food

Categories :

I believe more people would visit the their doctor’s office for well check visits if humans were given food at each appointment.  Izzy had not eaten anything but dog food since we have had her.   We don’t give our pets people food.  It is easier for dogs to maintain a healthy weight on dog food rather than people food.  Although we think we are training Izzy, she is also working on training us.  She barks when she wants attention and puts a paw on a knee when she wants to sit in our lap.  If we start to feed her from the kitchen or from our plate, she may start to whine while we are eating or cooking dinner for food.  I don’t want to start that habit.

The first thing they give Izzy at the vet is Cheese Whiz. I  don’t even eat that–it doesn’t seem healthy for a person much less a dog.  Izzy fell in love instantly with the tech and the Cheese Whiz.  When I saw where they were placing  that little tongue depressor I decided Izzy they whatever they want if it keeps her still and compliant.  They continued to give Izzy an assortment of treats–they were dog treats not people food.  She was as good as gold.

What’s your opinion?  People food or dog food for a healthy happy dog?

  1. It breaks my heart to see overweight dogs – they had that done to them by people. I saw what had to be a 35 pound pug leaving the vet yesterday with two doting “parents” who obviously adored the fat little guy and showed it by over feeding him. Criminal in my book.
So, at out house it’s an appropriate serving of doggie food for the doggie. Well, unless it’s something that has hit the floor – then it’s a matter of who gets there first!
