Benefits of a Mud Bath

Categories :

The name Meandering Joy might give anyone reading this blog a hint that I sometimes get off track with writing about boating.  It’s odd  that I have taken on the meandering quality after which we named the boat.  My thoughts and writing are doing much more meandering than our Fleming 55 at the moment.

Today, I am going to meander over to mud baths.  Why?  I will show you later with a fabulous picture or two.  Since I have had mud baths on my mind, I have done a little research as to their benefit.  Please understand that I do not frequently visit a spa for a mud bath or mud treatment.  In fact, I have been to a spa exactly once in my life.  Some dear teacher friends of mine gave me a gift certificate to a great spa in Athens which I thoroughly enjoyed.  The Foundry Spa in Athens, (now called the Spa at Graduate Athens)  does not offer a mud bath on its menu.

Many “great” internet sources tell me that a mud bath can put adventure into one’s life.  Obviously, Google and I define adventure differently.  Mr. Adventure (Steve) would agree with me.  However, other sources say that the minerals in mud can relieve muscle aches and pain, detoxify the body, soften skin, improve circulation, regulate metabolism and improve digestion.  Why aren’t we all seeking out this spa treatment regularly?

I did not find a place in Atlanta to receive a mud bath treatment.  Golden Haven Hot Springs Spa and Resort in Calistoga, Napa Valley offers a Couples Internet Special.  The special includes a Mud Bath, Hot Springs mineral Jacuzzi and Blanket Wrap for one hour for $74 per person.

Our sweet girl Izzy has given us a great idea.  Steve and I are considering opening a spa for dogs which includes a mud bath, lake water cleanse and run through the high grass special.   After a refreshing shower the guests will enjoy a relaxing swim in a saltwater pool.  We think we have a winning idea!  The only catch is we have to wait on torrential rains.  I am sure we can remedy this problem.

Izzy happily dug in the mud hole for hours.  She did not like being interrupted for the lake cleanse, shower or relaxing swim in the pool.  I think she has confirmed the beneficial qualities of a mud bath.  I will have to start looking for Spas along the ICW when we take Meandering Joy from Jacksonville to St. Simons!

Hoping you have a great day!

Joy

    1. Great idea. Maybe a line of dog bath products? Izzy’s Mud Bath Balm? Izzy’s? Thank you for reading!
